7 plants that grow and bloom in water, no need to use soil.
1. Water Lilies (Nymphaea spp.)
Water lilies are iconic aquatic plants known for their stunning, fragrant flowers that float on the water's surface. They come in various colors, including white, pink, yellow, and red. Their broad, round leaves (pads) are equally decorative and provide shade for aquatic life.
2. Lotus (Nelumbo spp.)
Lotus plants produce large, exotic flowers that emerge above the water on sturdy stalks and have broad leaves that float on the water. They are often associated with tranquility and purity, featuring flowers in white, pink, or yellow.
3. Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes)
Water hyacinths are free-floating aquatic plants with attractive, lavender-blue flowers and glossy, rounded leaves. They are fast-growing and can quickly cover the water surface, providing excellent cover for fish.
4. Anubias (Anubias spp.)
Anubias are popular aquarium plants known for their sturdy, dark green leaves and slow growth. They can produce small, white flowers when conditions are right. Anubias are very resilient and adapt well to different water conditions.
5. Water Poppy (Hydrocleys nymphoides)
Water poppies have attractive, yellow flowers with a dark center that bloom above heart-shaped floating leaves. They add a cheerful and bright touch to water gardens and are relatively easy to care for.
6. Lucky Bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana)
Lucky bamboo is an easy-to-grow plant that thrives in water. It has slender, upright stalks with green, lance-shaped leaves. Although not a true bamboo, it is popular for its elegance and simplicity, often grown in decorative arrangements.
7. Papyrus (Cyperus papyrus)
Papyrus is a tall, grass-like plant with clusters of thin, green stems topped with tufts of grassy bracts. It is a striking addition to water gardens and ponds, adding height and texture.

Watt I do not understand You can start them in water but once you put them in dirt and they get too wet,  they die

I’ve had this one for many years. When it gets too big-I just cut off most of the roots and place it back in water.

Meg Shapleigh I add to it for 4-6 weeks then change the water and clean the vase. If it looks dirty earlier, I change it. I wash the roots under running water before I cut them off about every quarter year, or any time they look really green. I’m a snowbird so I wrap the roots in a wet paper towel and take them back and forth with me. I have had the same New Guinea impatiens since 2019 by rooting them, planting them in a small pot then separating them and planting several pots with them when I get to our other home.

I like this idea! My mom had a plant she was growing in water. She added a few drops of green food coloring to the water. That’s what I would do.

I don't understand how the snake plant/mother-in-law's tongue roots for other people. I can't keep one alive to save my life! If I try to put it in water it just gets mushy and dies.. when I put it in dirt and try not to water so much, they dry up.. if I water them they get mushy even in dirt. Any suggestions?

Peggy J. Wills Comer are you using we'll water or city water? I'd think city water would be full of chlorine but I'm not sure

Is it me or did I miss the Author say that non of the plants pictured are the same as the plants listed?
Google the species listed and the pictures are definitely not the same.
All the plants pictured can be started in water but will need soil.…

Its called rooting your cuttings. One couldn't have the same result if you dropped seeds into the cup
